SMART VENT CERTIFICATIONS AND CODES

INTERNATIONAL CODE COUNCIL - EVALUATION SERVICE REPORT (ESR-2074)

Accepted by FEMA and all professionals nation-wide, our ICC Evaluation Report is the single document of certification that you need to provide to the Building Code Official, Land Surveyor, and Insurance Agent. This certification is available for download below and also comes in every SMART VENT retail box. Our ICC-ESR 2074 documents all of our model numbers, model sizes, certified flood coverage for each model, and more. Additionally, it includes our Florida Building Code Supplement (FBC and FRC) with approved use in High-Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ).

FLORIDA BUILDING PRODUCT APPROVAL (FL5822-R3)

As an added measure, SMART VENTS have been certied through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Our approved use in High Velocity Hazard Zones (HVHZ) is documented on this certication.

FEMA TECHNICAL BULLETIN 1: OPENINGS IN FOUNDATION WALLS AND WALLS OF ENCLOSURES (TB-1)

Provides guidance on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations concerning the requirement for openings in below Base Flood Elevation (BFE) foundation walls and walls of enclosures for buildings located in Flood Zones A, AE, A1-A30, AR, AO, and AH. Go to page 25/26 to view the certification requirements for SMART VENTSin the section titled “Engineered Openings with ICC-ES Evaluation Reports.”

NON-ENGINEERED OPENING GUIDE

The Non-Engineered Opening Guide guide assists in the compliance and measurement documentation of non-engineered flood openings for the elevation certificate in accordance with the National Flood Insurance Program.

This guide was developed by the collaborative efforts of Carolina Flood Solutions LLC, and Flood Risk Evaluator (F.R.E.™), a division of Smart Vent Products, Inc. An engineer conducted an independent evaluation of each Non-Engineered Opening vent included in this guide. Each vent was drawn to scale in AutoCAD® providing a 1/64th of an inch accurate calculation.

NFIP INSURANCE AGENT’S LOWEST FLOOR GUIDE

The Insurance Agent’s Lowest Floor Guide will assist you in determining the lowest floor for flood insurance rating purposes.

FEMA TECHNICAL BULLETIN 3: NON-RESIDENTIAL FLOODPROOFING - REQUIREMENTS AND CERTIFICATION (TB-3)

Provides guidance on the NFIP regulations concerning watertight construction and the required certification for floodproofed non-residential buildings in Zones A, AE, A1-A30, AR, AO, and AH whose lowest floors are below the Base Flood Elevation (BFE).

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS: FLOOD RESISTANT DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION (ASCE 24-14)

Prepared by the Flood Resistant Design and Construction Committee of the Codes and Standards Activities Division of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE Flood Resistant Design and Construction, ASCE/SEI 24-14, provides minimum requirements for design and construction of structures located in flood hazard areas and subject to building code requirements. Identification of flood prone structures is based on flood hazard maps, studies, and other public information. This standard applies to new structures, including subsequent work, and to work classified as substantial improvement of existing structures that are not historic. Standard ASCE/SEI 24-14 updates and replaces the previous Standard, ASCE/SEI 24-05. It provides essential guidance on design and construction to structural engineers, design professionals, code officials, floodplain managers, and building owners. The standard is adopted by reference in model building codes.

Go to Page 10 to view the Engineered Opening and Non-Engineered Opening Requirements.

Notes:
- All flood openings “shall not be less than 3 in. in any direction in the plane of the wall.”
- Any flood opening “shall be classified as partially obstructed if louvers, blades, screens, grilles, faceplates, or other covers or devices are present during the design flood” and use the partially obstructed shape Coefficient of Discharge requirement.
- V-Zones: Flood Openings are now required in Breakaway Walls.

ICODES

The 2009, 2012, and 2015 International Residential Codes (IRC) and International Building Codes (IBC) establishes the minimum regulations for all dwellings, houses, buildings and structures. Below are selected pages from these codebooks that pertain to flood opening requirements. *Excerpts of the I-Codes are reprinted with permission of the International Code Council.

AIR VENTILATION CODES (FOR DUAL FUNCTION VENT SERIES)

The single SMART VENT Dual Function Flood Vent provides 51 net sq. inches of air ventilation. Below are the 2009 IRC and IBC selected pages establishing the minimum air ventilation requirements for under-floor ventilation. There is also a building scenario equation document used for reference when calculating flood and air ventilation requirements. *Excerpts of the I-Codes are reprinted with permission of the International Code Council.
